Barcelona draws
April 14th, 2008Despite being just outside the relegation zone, Recreativo managed to tie 2-2 with Barcelona on Saturday night. For a moment it looked as if Barcelona were on top form, when Samuel Eto’o stormed ahead and scored in the second minute. However, the pace settled down and it was clear that Barcelona’s problems are still not behind them.
Whatever the result, it was clear that even allowing for bad luck Barça were not on form. Carlos Marcos’ goal in the 41st minute was clearly saved by Victor Valdes in the playback, but that is the nature of football. And when Eto’o scored again in the 46th minute it looked as if Barcelona might be able to take the three points. Recreativo weren’t going to allow it though at Marcos again scored, this time in the 71st minute.
Although not on top of their game it was noticeable that Eto’o is being highly supportive of Frank Rijkaard. While Rijkaard must be finding life tough at the moment, it must do him some good to know that somewhere he has some support.
Barcelona are currently 9 points behind Real Madrid and just 1 ahead of Villarreal.
Barcelona out of Copa del Rey
March 21st, 2008Barcelona are nursing their injured pride today after being soundly thrashed in the Copa del Rey. Valencia beat Barça 3-2 in the return match to go through 4-3 on aggregate.
1-1 draw against Valencia
February 28th, 2008Barcelona’s persistance paid off in the final minute of the second half when they equalized against Valencia in the first leg the Copa del Rey semi-final.
Having failed to capitalize on some early opportunities, Barcelona were determined not to let the visitors win. Clearly the better team, Valencia seemed to possess an impenetrable defense. However, a blast from Xavi with a few seconds remaining on the clock saw that Valencia’s advantage was minimized.
The return match takes place on March 20th.

Copa del Rey: FCB-Zaragoza
February 1st, 2007Barcelona’s indifferent form continued last night when the Catalan club were beaten 1-0 by the visiting team. Although Barça seem to be going through a period in which not a single team member seems to shine, it’s important to keep things in perspective - Barcelona are currently at the top of the league, one point ahead of Sevilla; they are still in the Champions League; and a 1-0 loss against Zaragoza is hardly a crushing defeat.
The main problem with FCB at the moment is simple: their football is just plain boring to watch. So lets not worry too much and hope that the team gets back to form soon. With Messi and Eto’o about to rejoin the team things could start to get really interesting again.
