Match preview: Barcelona versus giant killing Getafe
May 25th, 2007Both the team and supporters alike are slightly anxious ahead of the clash with Getafe on Saturday night. After the thrashing they received in the King’s Cup and with no margin of error to play with for the remainder of the season, Barcelona must win tomorrow night if they are to stand any chance of winning the league, and much of this must now be down to the pychological strength of the players.
Meanwhile La Liga leaders Real Madrid face Deportivo at home on Saturday, while third place Sevilla play host to Zaragoza on Sunday. We’ll be awaiting these results with fingers crossed.

Deco: FC Barcelona in crisis
May 16th, 2007Deco admitted that Barça are in crisis after their defeat by Getafe on Thursday followed by the 1-1 draw against Betis that knocked them off top spot in the league, but insisted that they would continue fighting. Meanwhile support for Barcelona came from an unlikely source yesterday, when Real Madrid’s Guti said that all they needed was a good win to restore confidence.
It seems that Barça is still after Arsenal captain Thierry Henry, but are talking through third party channels to ensure he really will move this time. It would be a nice retirement package for him certainly, but is Henry the antidote to Barcelona’s problems?
The bad news continues: Barça knocked off top spot

Match preview: Barcelona-Betis
May 11th, 2007After last night’s shock defeat by Getafe in the Copa del Rey the pressure is really on for the team to perform in the league. With Real Madrid just 2 points behind and facing Espanyol on Sunday night there is no room for anything but a clear win against Betis on Sunday night. They drew 1-1 in January, although last season Barcelona beat Betis 4-1 away and then 5-1 at home.
Match date: Sunday 13 May at 19:00
Weekend roundup
May 7th, 2007Sunday saw a change in the 2nd and 3rd places in the league after Real Madrid beat Sevilla 3-2 in Santiago Bernabeu last night. Ideally for FC Barcelona this exciting clash would have ended in a draw, but last night’s result means that Madrid remain two points behind Barcelona, and have jumped two ahead of Sevilla. The season is far from over and Barcelona must remain focused, work hard and need a little bit of luck to pull this season off.
Ronaldinho fans will be happy to know that their favourite player seems to be making an impact at the moment. Although he didn’t score either of the goals on Saturday against Real Sociedad, he did set both goals up.
Next in the FC Barcelona schedule is the Copa del Rey match against Getafe on Thursday followed by Betis visiting the Nou Camp on Sunday. The weekend after that they visit Atletico de Madrid, currently in sixth position and a team that should never be underestimated.
To sum things up: this season is winnable for Barça, but they’re a long way from sealing the results. Visca Barça!
